How do Integrations work?
In the context of education technology, particularly with publishers and Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), “integration” means connecting a third-party tool, like a publisher’s online resources, with a Learning Management System (LMS) in a secure and seamless way. This allows students and instructors to access the tool directly from within the LMS, without needing to leave the platform or create separate logins.
How it Works
When an instructor adds an LTI link to their LMS course, it acts as a gateway to the external tool. When a student clicks the link, the LMS sends information about the course, user, and their role to the tool, allowing the tool to authenticate the user and provide access. LTI can be used to integrate various publisher resources, including online textbooks, interactive activities, assessment tools, and virtual learning environments.
